door chains
Partial opening security
A door chain is a simple security device that allows a door to open a few inches while remaining attached to the frame.
You can see who's outside or speak through the gap without fully admitting them: She opened the door as far as the chain would allow.
Door chains provide minimal physical security but create a barrier against forced entry by someone at the threshold.
