do the deed
Complete a significant act
Do the deed means to perform an act that's understood from context, typically something significant, difficult, or slightly transgressive.
Most commonly it's a euphemism for having sex: We finally did the deed.
It can also refer to any decisive action one has been building toward: I've been putting off quitting, but today I did the deed.
