diving save
Airborne defensive stop
A diving save is a dramatic defensive play in which a goalkeeper or fielder launches their body through the air to stop a ball that would otherwise score or get past them.
The term appears most often in soccer and hockey, where goalkeepers dive horizontally to deflect shots: The goalkeeper made a spectacular diving save in the final minute.
Figuratively, any last-second rescue of a bad situation: Her diving save on the presentation kept us from losing the client.
