ditto mark

Quotation mark's cousin

A ditto mark is the symbol (〃 or ") placed directly beneath a word or figure in a list or table to indicate repetition of the item above it.

Common in handwritten documents and older printed materials, ditto marks save space and reduce redundancy in columns of similar data: names, dates, quantities.

The practice has largely given way to copy-paste in digital contexts.
