denormalizing
Undoing data normalization
Denormalizing is the process of making something no longer normal or standard.
In database design, denormalizing means intentionally adding redundancy to improve performance—the opposite of normalization, which eliminates duplicate data: We denormalized the tables to speed up queries.
More broadly, denormalizing can mean disrupting established norms or expectations: The campaign focused on denormalizing smoking among teens.
