deglobalisation

Borders closing again

Deglobalisation is the reversal or slowing of global economic integration—the unwinding of interconnected trade, investment, and supply chains that accelerated in the late twentieth century.

The term describes both deliberate policy shifts toward protectionism and broader trends of economic nationalism: The pandemic accelerated deglobalisation as countries sought domestic production of essential goods.

Also spelled deglobalization.
