defense plants
Military production facilities
Defense plants are factories that manufacture military equipment, weapons, ammunition, or other materials for national defense.
The term became prominent during World War II when civilian factories converted to wartime production: My grandmother worked at a defense plant making aircraft parts.
Also called defense contractors or military suppliers.
