defending others

Standing for allies

Defending others is the act of protecting people from harm, criticism, or attack.

This may be physical—stepping in during a confrontation—or verbal, as when someone speaks up for a person being criticized: She's always defending others when they can't defend themselves.

In legal contexts, it can justify otherwise prohibited force used to protect a third party from imminent danger.
