deertongue
Aromatic woodland plant
Deertongue is a North American plant with broad, tongue-shaped leaves that smell of vanilla when dried.
The leaves have been used to flavor tobacco and as a fixative in perfumes.
Also called vanilla leaf or wild vanilla.
The deertongue growing along the creek bank gave off a sweet scent.
