deerstalkers
Trackers of venison
Deerstalkers are close-fitting caps with brims front and back and earflaps that can tie up over the crown or down under the chin.
Originally worn for hunting in the Scottish Highlands, they're now associated almost entirely with Sherlock Holmes, who wore one in Sidney Paget's original illustrations.
He showed up in a deerstalker like some amateur detective.
