decapsulated

Outer layer stripped

Decapsulated describes something that has had its capsule or outer covering removed.

The term appears most often in medical and biological contexts: a decapsulated kidney has had its fibrous membrane stripped away; decapsulated brine shrimp eggs have been treated to remove their hard shells, making them easier for fish to digest.

The prefix de- reverses the encapsulation.
