decadency

Gradual cultural decline

Decadency is a rare variant of decadence, referring to a state of moral or cultural decline, or excessive indulgence in pleasure and luxury.

The word appears occasionally in older texts but has largely fallen out of use in favor of decadence.

When encountered, it carries the same connotations of deterioration from former excellence or vitality.

The decadency of the ruling class hastened the empire's collapse.
