dayglo

Blindingly vivid hue

Dayglo describes intensely bright, fluorescent colors that seem to glow even in daylight—the vivid oranges, pinks, greens, and yellows of highlighter pens and safety vests.

Originally a trademark for fluorescent pigments, the word now functions as a general adjective for anything garishly bright: dayglo sneakers, a dayglo sunset.

Also spelled Day-Glo.
