cross cutting
Cutting across grain
Cross cutting refers to editing that alternates between two or more scenes happening simultaneously in different locations, building tension or showing parallel action: The film cross cuts between the heist and the detective racing to stop it.
The technique implies connection between separate events.
In other contexts, cross cutting means cutting across something, or describes issues that span multiple categories or disciplines: Climate change is a cross-cutting concern affecting agriculture, health, and economics.
