cross belt
Torso-crossing harness band
A cross belt is a belt worn diagonally across the torso, typically from one shoulder to the opposite hip.
Military uniforms historically featured cross belts to support swords, ammunition pouches, or cartridge boxes: The soldier adjusted his cross belt before inspection.
The term also applies to similar diagonal straps on bags, harnesses, or fashion accessories.
In machinery, a cross belt is a drive belt that crosses itself in a figure-eight pattern to reverse the direction of rotation between pulleys.
