Critical damage is damage that exceeds normal amounts, typically from a lucky or well-placed hit.
The term comes from tabletop and video games, where critical hits deal extra damage—often double or more: The rogue rolled a natural 20 and dealt critical damage to the dragon.
Critical damage usually results from chance or hitting a vulnerable spot, making combat unpredictable and rewarding precision or luck.
