crawler tracks
Continuous loop treads
Crawler tracks are the continuous metal belts that wrap around the wheels of tanks, bulldozers, and other heavy vehicles, distributing weight across soft or uneven terrain.
The linked segments grip surfaces that would defeat ordinary tires: The excavator's crawler tracks left deep impressions in the mud.
Also called caterpillar tracks or tank treads.
