corn snakes
Popular pet serpents
Corn snakes are nonvenomous North American snakes, popular as pets for their docile temperament and manageable size.
They're constrictors, killing prey by squeezing rather than venom.
The name likely comes from their checkered belly pattern resembling kernels of maize, or from their presence in cornfields hunting rodents.
My daughter wants a corn snake for her birthday.
