control keys

Modifier keyboard inputs

Control keys are keyboard keys that modify the function of other keys when pressed simultaneously.

The most familiar is the Ctrl key, which combines with letter keys to trigger commands like copy, paste, and undo.

On Mac keyboards, the Command key serves a similar role.

More broadly, control keys include any keys that control computer functions rather than producing characters—Shift, Alt, Escape, and the function keys all qualify.

I accidentally hit the wrong control keys and closed my document.
