Confirmed bachelor is a phrase describing a man who appears permanently committed to remaining unmarried.
The term often carried—and still carries—a coded suggestion that the man is gay, particularly in contexts where homosexuality couldn't be discussed openly: The obituary described him as a confirmed bachelor who never married.
It can also describe men genuinely uninterested in marriage for other reasons.
