Graduate qualifying test
A comprehensive exam is a test covering an entire course of study rather than a single unit or semester.
In graduate programs, it's a milestone examination students must pass to advance toward their degree, demonstrating mastery of their field: She spent three months preparing for her comprehensive exams.
