compilation albums
Collected songs disc
Compilation albums are collections of tracks gathered from various sources—different artists, different albums, or different eras of a single artist's catalog.
A greatest hits album compiles an artist's most successful songs.
Various-artist compilations might gather songs by theme, genre, or era: The soundtrack was a compilation album of 1980s hits.
Record labels often release compilations to fulfill contractual obligations or monetize back catalogs.
