comfort objects
Soothing childhood attachments
Comfort objects are items—typically soft toys, blankets, or similar things—that provide emotional security, especially for children.
A child's attachment to a particular stuffed animal or blanket helps them self-soothe during stress, separation, or sleep.
Adults may retain comfort objects or develop new ones: She still sleeps with her childhood teddy bear.
Psychologists sometimes call these transitional objects.
