co-mingling

Combining into one

Co-mingling is the mixing together of things that are usually or should be kept separate.

The term appears most often in legal and financial contexts: co-mingling of funds describes improperly mixing personal money with business or client accounts.

More broadly, it can describe any blending of distinct elements: the co-mingling of cultures in border towns.

Also spelled commingling.
