clay slip

Clay slip is liquid clay—clay mixed with water to a creamy consistency.
Potters use it to join pieces of unfired clay together, coat surfaces for decoration, or create designs through layering.
She scored the edges and applied slip before attaching the handle.
Slip can also be colored with pigments and painted onto pottery before firing.
