Round-robin narrative
A chain story is a collaborative narrative created by multiple contributors, each adding a portion to what came before.
The format appears in party games, classroom exercises, and online writing communities, where one person writes an opening passage and others continue the tale in sequence.
The results often veer into absurdity or incoherence, since each writer may take the plot in unexpected directions.
We wrote a chain story at camp and it ended with the protagonist becoming a sentient toaster.
