cent sign
Hundredth-dollar marker
The cent sign (¢) is the symbol representing a cent—one hundredth of a dollar or other currency unit.
It appears after the numeral: The candy costs 50¢.
Once common on typewriters and cash registers, the symbol has largely disappeared from everyday use as prices below a dollar have become rare and decimal notation with the dollar sign prevails.
