censorship boards
Media approval committees
Censorship boards are official bodies that review media—films, books, music, video games—before public release, with authority to approve, restrict, or ban content.
Most operate under government mandate, applying standards around violence, sexuality, or political material: The censorship board cut three scenes before granting approval.
In some countries they function as rating agencies; in others, as gatekeepers with power to suppress.
