cave carvings
Subterranean rock art
Cave carvings are images or symbols cut into rock surfaces inside caves, typically by prehistoric peoples.
Distinguished from cave paintings, which use pigment, carvings are incised or sculpted into the stone itself.
The term covers petroglyphs, relief sculptures, and other marks made by removing material from cave walls: The cave carvings depicted animals and hunting scenes.
