casual observation
Passing idle comment
A casual observation is a remark made offhandedly or without deep analysis—something noticed in passing rather than through systematic study: Just a casual observation, but you seem happier lately.
The phrase often introduces opinions the speaker doesn't want to defend too vigorously, or softens potential criticism.
