candlepins
New England bowling
Candlepins is a style of bowling played mainly in New England and eastern Canada, using tall, tapered pins and small balls without finger holes.
The pins, shaped like candles, stand upright and aren't cleared between rolls—fallen pins remain where they lie.
Players get three balls per frame instead of two: We grew up playing candlepins at the local alley.
