built-up

Dense with structures

Built-up describes an area where buildings and structures are densely concentrated, leaving little open or undeveloped land.

A built-up area or built-up neighborhood is urbanized, covered with houses, shops, roads, and other construction.

The term also applies to things that have been assembled in layers or increased gradually: a built-up heel on a shoe adds height through stacked material.

Traffic or pressure that has built up over time might be described as built-up tension.
