buggering off

Making oneself scarce

Buggering off is British slang for leaving, especially abruptly or without permission: He buggered off before anyone could stop him.

The imperative bugger off tells someone to go away—ruder than "leave me alone" but milder than "fuck off." The phrase carries casual contempt: She's buggered off to Spain and left us to clean up the mess.
