bucktails
Fishing flies, natural-haired
Bucktails are fishing lures made with deer tail hair tied around a hook, typically with a lead head.
The hair undulates in the water, mimicking baitfish.
Bucktails are especially popular for saltwater fishing: I caught that striper on a white bucktail.
The term also refers historically to New York soldiers in the Civil War who wore deer tail ornaments on their caps.
