brown widow

A brown widow is a venomous spider related to the more notorious black widow, found in warm climates worldwide.

It has a mottled brown coloring and the characteristic hourglass marking on its abdomen, though in orange or yellow rather than red.

Its venom is potent but it injects less than black widows, making bites typically less dangerous: We found a brown widow in the garage.
