bravos

Shouts of approval

Bravos is the plural of bravo, which has two main senses.

As an exclamation, bravo applauds a performance—shouting it at the opera, or offering multiple bravos for an encore.

The other bravo is a hired assassin or desperado, from Italian: The duke employed bravos to eliminate his rivals.

This sense is literary and historical.
