box cameras
Early portable photography
Box cameras are simple, inexpensive cameras shaped like rectangular boxes, popular from the late 1800s through the mid-20th century.
The Kodak Brownie was the most famous example.
These cameras had fixed focus and single shutter speeds, making photography accessible to amateurs: My grandmother's box camera captured all her childhood photos.
