Bone breaker refers to someone or something that breaks bones—used literally for a person who inflicts severe physical harm, or figuratively for anything punishingly difficult or dangerous: That hill is a real bone breaker for cyclists.
The term also names the lammergeier, a vulture that drops bones from heights to crack them open and eat the marrow.
