black sororities

African-American Greek organizations

Black sororities are historically Black Greek-letter organizations for women, founded at American universities in the early twentieth century when Black women were excluded from white sororities.

The major ones—Alpha Kappa Alpha, Delta Sigma Theta, Zeta Phi Beta, and Sigma Gamma Rho—remain culturally significant institutions emphasizing sisterhood, scholarship, and community service.

They're known for elaborate step shows and lifelong membership bonds.
