black mud

Swamp's thick bottom

Black mud is dark, waterlogged sedite found in swamps, marshes, and tidal flats—distinguished from ordinary mud by its color, which comes from decaying organic matter.

The term also refers to a potent form of heroin, so called for its dark, tar-like appearance: He was arrested for trafficking black mud.
