bee stinger
Insect's defensive needle
A bee stinger is the barbed organ at the end of a bee's abdomen used to inject venom.
When a honeybee stings, the barbed stinger lodges in the skin and tears from the bee's body, killing it.
Other bees can sting repeatedly.
The term also describes the sharp pain of being stung: That bee stinger hurt for hours.
