bed monster
Child's nighttime fear
A bed monster is an imaginary creature that children fear lurks under or around their bed at night.
The term captures a universal childhood anxiety—the dark space beneath the mattress as a hiding place for something sinister.
Parents may check for bed monsters as part of bedtime reassurance: No bed monsters tonight, I promise.
