barn owls
Heart-faced night fliers
Barn owls are medium-sized owls with distinctive heart-shaped faces, pale plumage, and dark eyes.
They hunt rodents at night, often nesting in barns, church steeples, and other structures.
The name comes from their preference for such sheltered spaces: A pair of barn owls has been living in our hayloft for years.
