backsourcing
Bringing work home
Backsourcing is bringing business functions back in-house after they've been outsourced to external providers.
A company might backsource IT operations or customer service when the outsourcing arrangement fails to deliver expected savings or quality: After years of complaints, the company backsourced its call center from overseas.
The term arose as a counterpoint to outsourcing.
