away goals
Opponent's venue tallies
Away goals is a tiebreaker rule in soccer tournaments where goals scored at the opposing team's stadium count extra when aggregate scores are level after two-legged matches.
If both teams score the same total over home and away games, the team with more away goals advances: They went through on away goals after the 3-3 aggregate.
The rule, now abolished by many competitions, aimed to reward attacking play in hostile environments.
