automatic shutoff

Turns itself off

An automatic shutoff is a mechanism that stops a device or system without human intervention, typically when a preset condition is met—a timer runs out, a tank fills, or a temperature threshold is reached.

Safety devices use automatic shutoff to prevent fires, floods, or overheating: The iron has an automatic shutoff if left unattended.

Also called auto shutoff.
