asking forgiveness

Requesting to reconcile

Asking forgiveness is seeking pardon for a wrong done, requesting that someone release their grievance against you.

The phrase often appears in contrast with asking permission: It's easier to ask forgiveness than permission suggests acting first and dealing with consequences later.

To ask forgiveness implies acknowledging fault—you can't sincerely ask for it without admitting you did something wrong.
