archaeocyte
Totipotent sponge cell
An archaeocyte is a type of cell found in sponges—amoeba-like cells that move freely through the sponge's body and perform multiple functions.
Archaeocytes can transform into other cell types, digest food, transport nutrients, and produce reproductive cells.
They're essential to sponge regeneration: a sponge broken apart can reassemble largely through archaeocyte activity.
