abide by

Comply with rules

To abide by something is to accept and follow it—a rule, decision, or agreement: We agreed to abide by the referee's call.

The phrase implies compliance even when you might prefer otherwise: I don't like the policy, but I'll abide by it.

Unlike simply obeying, abide by suggests honoring a commitment or respecting an authority.
