Yankton
South Dakota municipality
Yankton refers to a division of the Dakota Sioux people, historically occupying territory in the northern Great Plains, particularly along the Missouri River in what is now South Dakota.
The name also applies to a city in southeastern South Dakota that serves as the Yankton County seat.
The Yankton Sioux Tribe maintains a reservation in the area today.
